Studyinformationday 2026
On April 18, 2026, the Detmold University of Music opened its doors to prospective students as part of the university-wide Study Information Day – and, of course, the Erich Thienhaus Institute was once again part of the event.
Numerous young visitors took the opportunity to gain insight into the world of audio and music production. In a relaxed atmosphere, many engaging conversations took place between prospective students, current students, and faculty members. Discussions covered not only the study program and entrance examinations, but also personal experiences and perspectives related to studying at the ETI.
One particular highlight was the opportunity to explore the institute’s studios, seminar rooms, and the “free-field room” used for acoustic measurements. Many visitors took their time to look around in detail, ask questions, and gain their first impressions of everyday student life at the ETI.
The social aspect of the day was not neglected either: At lunchtime, everyone gathered for hot dogs – a great opportunity to continue conversations and make new connections. In the evening, the successful day came to a relaxed close with a barbecue gathering.
The 2026 Study Information Day was a rewarding experience for everyone involved. We are delighted by the great interest and the many inspiring encounters – and perhaps we will soon welcome some of the visitors back as new students at the ETI.

Mahler 3 in Poland
As part of an international project, the university orchestra collaborated with the Music Academy in Katowice, Poland, on Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. Under the direction of Patrick Lange and with Prof. Gerhild Romberger as soloist, an ambitious musical project took shape, including rehearsals and concerts in both Detmold and Katowice.
During the stay in Poland, a group of tonmeister students, supervised by Prof. Ephraim Hahn, accompanied the rehearsals from an audio recording perspective. Long working days, high levels of concentration, and close interaction with the musicians characterized the seminar. Working in unfamiliar concert halls and studio environments repeatedly challenged the students to adapt to new acoustic and technical conditions.
